Wildlife Habitat Seeds
Chufa
Chufa
Description:
A perennial member of the sedge family, producing growth from slender thin rhizomes forming tubors relative to the size of peanuts. Plants stand erect to 3 feet tall, providing a flat spiked browinsih grey in color seed. Said to be the wild turkeys favorite food of all, ducks and quail also find it very palitable. Growth traits similiar to that of peanuts, producing an abundance of underground bulbs or rhiznomes very sweet to the taste. Per forms well on sandy soils so that the birds can scratch up the tubors. Draws in waterfowl to eat the tasteful tubors from flooded marshes and low lands. Seeding rate of 20 – 25 lbs per acre.
