Description:
An upright short lived perennial or biannual legume that grows best on well drained soil. It is fast growing and also used for pasture and hay. Red clover may be seeded alone or at a rate of 6 to 10 pounds per acre. Medium red clover is a double cut clover used in the Midwest. A winter hardy legume that grows 18 to 30 inches tall. Ideal planting time is late summer through early fall or in the spring. When seeded it takes 80 to 85 days after emergence to mature. If seeded in the fall it will mature the following year mid-spring.
