Description:
A perennial legume that grows well throughout the midwest in native prairies and prairies relies on well drained or dry soil. This plant is noted to occur in patches, as many as 8 - 10 stems arise from deep and spreading roots. Slender, erect stems, grows from 1 - 2 feet tall. A cylinder like cone or purple flowering spike is normally from 1/2 to 2 inches long. This clover would be a nice addition to a prairie grass mix, not only to add color, but to add nitrogen to the soil for the grasses. It also high on the list for a palatable food and forage source. Planting after any chance of frost or late fall planting. A seeding rate of 6 - 8 lbs per acre (mono-stand) a rate of 8 - 10 oz. per acre in a prairie mixture.
